Self-mastery means to become able to feel clearly emotions without reacting instinctively to them or letting them driving your decisions and actions. So, whatever is the storm of sensations you may feel, you are always able to operate lucidly and in line with a set of absolute principles you have in mind.
Self-mastery means becoming successful in life, because to work in order to actualize your core principles enhances your sense of purpose and well-being and it significantly increase your effectiveness in the contexts important for you.
The two statements above are extremely simple and may appear so obvious that you may spend only few seconds on them; however, please note that their understanding and application works like a positive revolution in life of people.
As a simple example, think about how your life could improve if you became able to always control your automatic behaviors when feeling anxiety, anger or greed or when making mistakes. But self-mastery is not easy. It can take the full life to understand its meaning and achieve it. Indeed, the two statements above may look easy, but they are not. Many think self-mastery is simply cancelling emotions and becoming a sort of exceptional robot; but cancelling emotions means becoming blind to the emotions of other people as well, and so it means becoming ineffective in the application of any principles that involve the people around you. Indeed, self-mastery means to fully experience emotions, without being dominated by them.
Many think self-mastery means to be able to apply successfully a set of principles, but this is only discipline! Self-mastery means to be sure that the principles you apply belong to your core-self and to your deepest vision of life.
My book Brilliant well-being is “life-transforming” because it gives the tools to understand and achieve self-mastery, leading you along the path toward the best-self and allowing you to make the positive changes you want to see in your life.
Many thanks in advance for your comments!
